I am the mom of two boys; both very accomplished, top ranked high school wrestlers (even though one is still in 8th grade)! My husband is an engineer and sports fanatic! What I enjoy most of all is spending time traveling with these crazy boys of mine!
My passion is to help others feel younger by alleviating their pain and illness through nutrition! God did not design our bodies to fail. He designed a miraculous system of organs that work together to heal itself most of the time when given the proper fuel to thrive!
My story of digestive pain goes back to when I was a child, I spent much of my time in hospitals due to white blood cell counts that were too high and major digestive issues. At 11 years of age we found out that I had severe environmental allergies as well as food allergies. We removed dairy, red meat, chocolate, and eggs from my diet and my stomach pain improved slightly. It still ignited from time to time, but was no longer constant.
In my 30's, I dealt with Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well as other stomach issues. At this time I began experiencing a lot of back pain as well. My doctor said that I had the back of an 80 year old woman and we considered surgery. I also had a lot of joint pain and soft tissue pain.
In my late 30's (seven years before becoming a Certified Nutritionist) I had a 2 month time frame where I would've sworn I was dying. Seriously... I called my pastor and asked him to pray for me. I was lethargic with stomach pain and every single muscle ached! Many of these symptoms alone were not unusual for me at the time, but this occurred all at once my symptoms were magnified and excruciating. I went to the doctor who diagnosed me with a sinus infection. What? My stomach pain is a sinus infection? I should add that by the time I made it to the doctor's office I had just started feeling sinus pressure.
So, the doctor said yes... a sinus infection can move around and affects every individual differently. Okay, he's the doctor so he must know what he's talking about. He's also been a doctor for about 40 years and well respected, honestly I really like him.
He put me on an Levaquin and sent me on my way. After I had gone through all of the Levaquin the sinus pressure was gone, but nothing else changed. Back to the doctor and he put me on Cleocin for a bladder infection. After I had gone through all of these antibiotics I developed a bad case of colitis. The doctor sent me to get tested and it was confirmed (luckily no hospitalization was needed). Then.... and this is when my mind started to make a huge shift... he literally said to me - YOU NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM DOCTORS, WE ARE KILLING YOU!!!
Again, this was a well respected doctor; who has since retired. I'm pretty sure he was only half joking, because as it turns out medical errors account for the top 3rd cause of death in the U.S. behind only heart disease and cancer!!
Don't get me wrong, I still believe that there are reasons to go to the doctor. But they are very specific and our focus needs to be on prevention and recovery through nutrition because God has created our bodies to heal themselves in MOST situations. However, our bodies will only do this if we are consuming nourishment and not toxins.
As you may have guessed this situation ignited a passion in me to seek the truth, I became obsessed with every study, article, or series regarding the link between food and illness. Finally, I decided to make my passion count for something and became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist. The word Holistic sounds so hippy like, but it just means that my education is focused on helping people use food to heal.
There is a lot of confusion out there about what foods are / aren't good for you. There are also a lot of different diet fads. My goal when working with clients is to find a solution that is best for them based on their health goals, their lifestyle, and even their tastebuds!
I like to enjoy the food I'm eating and at the same time provide my body with nourishment and not junk. To be honest I have 2 vices which I try to limit... wine & cheese! I am far from perfect and don't often have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen.
Let's work together so that you can lead a healthier life that fits your lifestyle! I promise you will feel better and be able to ENJOY this wonderful life that the good Lord has graced you with!
