What is the typical American diet doing to us and to our children? See below for the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of key nutrients that our body needs. These were developed to help us keep our bodies running as well as possible, but our current culture in America has lead us to turn a blind eye from eating to nourish our bodies to just, well... eating.
The problem affects us all, but think about a child's development system and risk of illness when they are NOT getting the proper nutrients.
Most of us start off being careful when our children are infants. Carefully ensuring that their first baby food experience was of a vegetable as opposed to something sweet. So, deep down we know that when we get rushed and pop into fast food joints or warm up a microwave meal that our kids are most likely not eating as nutritiously as possible... and my goodness we ARE busy!!
The pressure on parents is crazy! But, as usual in life we have to choose to focus on the important things. Ens...
The truth is that limiting or avoiding cholesterol consumption does wonders in the fight against heart disease. Not earth shattering news, right? But let's dissect this a little further so you can decide for yourself what the best treatment is for heart disease.
Where does cholesterol come from? Well, first of all your liver makes all the cholesterol you need and circulates it through the blood. We need the cholesterol the liver produces to make hormones, vitamin D, and other substances which help you digest foods, however a high LDL (Low-density lipoprotein) level leads to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries.
Risk factors for heart disease include a diet with too much of the wrong sorts of fats, too little essential fatty acids, and/or not enough fresh vegetables, as well as smoking and alcohol consumption.
So, you have a choice to make... do you pop a pill or change your eating or lifestyle habits?
The problem with popping a pill is that without changing your...
When you google Magnesium online you will find this definition:
Magnesium is a co-factor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation [1-3]. Magnesium is required for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis.
Sounds pretty important, right? So why do doctors rarely inform you of the importance of this mineral? Unfortunately most doctors know more about medicine than preventive healthcare.
I first learned about my own need for more magnesium 3 years ago when I was suffering from chronic back pain and both hamstring and peroneal tendinitis. Actually, I paid $45 at the time to pull up a paper on antibiotic related tendinitis, because my hamstring tendinitis (and possibly my issues in the ankle area too) was caused by the antibiotic Levaquin.
In this white paper I learned about various different minerals tha...
An apple a day really DOES keep the doctor away! Click HERE for a great article on the top 15 health benefits of apples including protection against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, various forms of Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease and more.
I often carry a few apples in my purse for myself or my boys if we get hungry. Even though I never actually crave an apple I find that they are not only very filling, but extremely hydrating as well. If we are out and about for awhile I know that it can help with hunger pains or dehydration if needed and they are just SO easy to grab n' go!!
Just exactly WHY are they so good for you?
Apples are rich sources of phenols and other flavonoids, which act as powerful antioxidants. The phytonutrients in apples can help regulate blood sugar as well. Apples ranks as a good source of fiber, in fact the particular type of fiber found in an apple (combined with the other apple nutrients) provides you with the kind of healthy benefits you would ordinarily associate with...
As you would imagine I talk to people quite often about reversing their chronic illness through nutrition. What shocks me time and time again is that when I begin telling them the cold hard truth the usual response is "oh I couldn't give that up"!
Maybe my delivery is poor and my passion misconstrued. For any of you who wouldn't EVER give up meat this is for you. I'm hoping after you read this you will AT LEAST consider limiting your animal consumption.
First of all the basics (which I go in much more detail on in my Bio-MAGNIFICATION Blog):Bio-magnification means that the higher up on the food chain an organism is, the more toxins are in their system. When you eat meat you are ingesting toxins.
Next up, ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS CONTAIN CHOLESTEROL. YES our bodies have cholesterol but (just like animals) we make it on our own and don't need to consume it.
Here is what the Mayo Clinic has to say about cholesterol: When deciding whether to include eggs in your diet, consi...
I see a lot of shaming at times from friends mocking others for trying to avoid vaccinations for their children. Did you know that there is a National Vaccine Injury Compensation Fund? If you suffer harm or death due to a vaccine you cannot sue the manufacturer of the vaccine, but you can sue the Federal Government and attempt to obtain compensation from this fund.
Interesting to note that we fund this program from the taxes we pay on vaccines. Back in 1986 Congress gave the pharmaceutical companies immunity against lawsuits for injuries or deaths resulting from vaccines. Before this time there were SO many lawsuits pending against big pharma that they blackmailed Congress; telling them that if they (the US government) did not grant them (big pharma) legal immunity against vaccine injury and death, that they would quit making them.
You see, these vaccine products CANNOT survive in a free market because they are so harmful. YET the US government makes some of them mandatory.
As I was finishing up my Holistic Nutrition Course I had to choose someone to consult as practice for my final project. My mother was a major reason I became interested in pursuing information on using nutrition to reverse disease. Naturally she was my first guinea pig! She was a very loving participant, although she didn't want to tell me her weight! :) Luckily she ended up complying with even that and I turned in the results of our initial consultation making a 100% on the project, whoo hoo!
But my score doesn't matter as much as IF IT WORKS!!! One very important thing I learned in my studies is that every individual is at a different stage of change. Some are clearly not ready, some need to take it real slow, and a few are gung-ho and roaring to do whatever it takes to get healthier!
My mom was a lot closer to gung-ho than I had expected and I was excited for her! There were only a few things that she was resistant about, but she has done just about everything we discussed exce...
I was on a roll! Since July of 2015 to July of 2016 I had lost 15 lbs from my Jazzercise Certification and Plant Based Eating. Then a very FUN summer of 2016 happened and the weight came BACK!!! I started my plant based eating in January of 2016, shortly after beginning my Certified Holistic Nutrition courses. What I learned as I began my course had me QUICKLY changing my eating patterns!
Back in July of 2015 I had lost the first 10 lbs from my certification training and then the additional 5 lbs came off very quickly once I established a plant based eating plan. By Easter of 2016 my husband followed suit! Actually I believe he bought into the plant based philosophy previously, but it wasn't until Easter that I realized it. We were eating at my mom's. I had brought an additional serving of veggies and when my hubby bypassed the ham I took note!! He just nonchalantly looked at me and said that he had been listening and watching... AND adopted my new eating philosophy based on all that I...
A vegetarian is someone who does not eat chicken, pig, cow, fish, turkey or any other type of animal. However, they do include the products produced by animals such as eggs and dairy.
A vegan does not eat any animal or anything that comes from an animal – so eggs, dairy and often honey are excluded.
Someone who eats a plant based diet may be a vegetarian or vegan or they may not be. A whole food plant based diet is based on a majority of whole plant foods but may include a very small amount of meat, fish or eggs.
Which one is healthiest? Even though the words vegan and vegetarian are often thought of as being healthy, this is not always how it plays out. You can be an unhealthy vegan or vegetarian. A plant based...
If you're wondering what exactly you can eat on a Whole Plant Food nourishment plan, then this blog is for you. I call it a nourishment plan as opposed to a diet because it is truly the way to provide your body with ALL the nutrients it needs to thrive and avoid the unhealthy by-products that are making so many people ill. Even if you still have some unhealthy items but over 80% of the good stuff your system will work to get rid of the bad stuff.
Below are 3 days and 3 variations of what I consume on a regular basis in a given day. For me some days are better than others and on the weekends I loosen up a bit (but I still will no longer consume animal meat - see my bio-magnification blog). Some days we are on the go constantly so it means packing meals, or preparing meals in a rush. Some days eating a whole plant food in it's original form is possible and other days we have to grab something pre-packaged with whole plant food items. Plus, I have a few taste-bud favorites!
