Track Your Nutrients On The Go!

The busyness of all our lives leaves many of us eating on the fly to get the quickest food possible. When I talk to people about good nutrition they either think they are already eating healthy or explain that they just don't have time.

How do we really know the best "diet" plan to pick? Should we choose clean eating, vegetarian, paleo, vegan, or plant based?

Let's stop worrying about labels and focus on these indisputable facts:

Most Americans consume too much of this...

  • Protein - 50 g approximately recommended daily - CLICK HERE for MORE from WEBMD

  • Sugar - 37.5 g (men), 25 g (women), & under 25 g (children) recommended

  • Cholesterol - 300 mg is the maximum recommended & 200 mg if you have heart disease or diabetes.

...and too little of this:

This combined with the fact that most Americans also consume too many additives through consumption of highly processed and unnatural foods explains why nearly 50% of Americans have been diagnosed with a chronic condition.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that eliminating three risk factors – poor diet, inactivity, and smoking – would prevent: 80% of heart disease and stroke, 80% of type 2 diabetes, and, 40% of cancer.

So, forget about the different diets out there and just start tracking your nutrients. The best app I've found for tracking ALL of your nutrients is Cronometer. No, I don't work for them or get paid in any way (but if they offered I'd take it)!

I am sharing because it helps me immensely. Once I became a Certified Nutritionist it was still difficult for me to know if I was consuming my optimal amount of nutrients and this was a Godsend for sure!

So, start off by using the app to track your normal day. If you ate too much sugar then make an adjustment the next day, then purposely add in the nutrients that maybe you aren't getting enough of (veggies are usually the key here). The facts don't lie and will give you a true visual of what is going into your body and whether you are hurting or helping your immune system.

Our bodies are amazing, in fact we can beat them up and put in garbage "food" yet they still keep on ticking... for awhile. However, let's not be a ticking time bomb when you can really eat to avoid and reverse most chronic illnesses.

One final thought, keep in mind that the 3rd cause of death in this country is medical errors and while doctors are wonderful in emergency situations, the best bet is to avoid pills and procedures as much as possible if you plan to live life to the fullest! AND... if you've already had a lot of medical procedures nutrition is your key for full recovery!
