As a child I was riddled with stomach pain ALL of the time. So much so that I just thought it was normal. My mom worked hard to make sure I ate "healthy" or at least what the world saw as healthy. For breakfast she would make eggs, bacon, and serve milk. At school for lunch I would have pbj, pizza, or whatever was being served. I LOVED Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches also. And whenever I was at home I was encouraged to drink milk, because it does a body good, right?
It wasn't until age 11 that I was diagnosed with food allergies. Yep, I was allergic to eggs, dairy, red meat, and chocolate. My poor mom felt horrible. Even in the 70's we were surrounded by advertising that milk is good for us; eggs and bacon are good for us also, right? So we switched my diet around omitting these items and my tummy felt much better. However, the pain did not completely go away and as a teenager I was diagnosed with a Spastic Colon, then with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as an adult.
Skip forward to earning my Holistic Nutritionist Certification and my eyes have been opened to the fact that our digestive system mimics a herbivore not a carnivore. As my 11 year old puts it; if we were carnivores then why can't we eat raw meat? Aha... great question! The good Lord created our bodies to find nourishment from the ground, nourishment which he freely provided us.
Genesis 1:29 states "And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food."
Of course many people can eat meat and other animal products without suffering pain, just like many people can smoke without getting lung cancer. There is a universal way to eat that properly nourishes our bodies and keeps us disease free, so stay tuned as I walk you through some delicious options! I count myself lucky that my digestive system is VERY reactive, I HAD to make some changes early on which I'm sure prevented additional issues.
