Biomagnification is the reason I stopped eating meat. Based on how much meat Americans eat it is also a major reason that chronic illness is on the rise.

 

Here is the definition:

 

bi·o·mag·ni·fi·ca·tion ˌ

bīōˌmaɡnifiˈkāSHən/ noun

  1. the concentration of toxins in an organism as a result of its ingesting other plants or animals in which the toxins are more widely disbursed.

In other words, the further up the food chain your meal is... the more toxins you are consuming. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

 

Biological magnification often refers to the process whereby certain substances such as pesticides or heavy metals move up the food chain, work their way into rivers or lakes, and are eaten by aquatic organisms such as fish, which in turn are eaten by large birds, animals or humans. The substances become concentrated in tissues or internal organs as they move up the chain. Bioaccumulants are substances that increase in concentration in living organisms as they take in contaminated air, water, or food because the substances are very slowly metabolized or excreted.

 

In fact the ONLY time that the nutrients we eat outweigh the toxins is when we consume Whole Plant Foods directly. NOTHING can compare to the healing power of Whole Plant Foods. No other food, supplement, or medicine! This means eating nuts, fruits, veggies, and grains in their natural form (not from a box) will do wonders for your immune system, protecting you from chronic illness. If over 80% of your consumption is Whole Plant Foods you will be able to prevent or reverse chronic illness! In fact, if you are currently on medications then it will be important to see your doctor after eating this way for a couple weeks. He or she will probably need to start weaning you off many of your meds!  Remember that all medicines have toxins so working with your primary care physician and coming up with a plan to avoid these toxins will be an important part of the process.

You see since plants can't move to get out of the sun, cold, heat, or storms they rely on a sophisticated defense system to survive. In return, when we consume plants in their natural form our immune system starts to work in the way that the creator designed it to work.

 

This doesn't mean that you can no longer enjoy eating. Quite the contrary! I enjoy eating now more than ever before because I feel SO MUCH BETTER after a meal. Before I made the switch to Whole Plant Foods I would feel sluggish, full, and tired after a meal. Now I just feel energized and along with working out I feel energized all day long!! How does that sound?
